‘SOROSAID’: THE OPEN SOCIETY FOUNDED A MULTITUDE OF GLOBALIST, HUNGARY-PHOBIC ORGANIZATIONS IN BRUSSELS

Between 2016 and 2023, George Soros has spent $90 million, about 35 billion forints, to support Brussels-based NGOs. This means that in addition to Hungarian globalist NGOs, organisations based in Belgium are also at the top of the list of open society funding, according to research by the Center for Fundamental Rights. Moreover, support for Brussels-based organisations tripled in the year leading up to the 2024 European Parliament elections, showing that Soros was determined to influence the European climate of opinion through politically biased organisations of his liking. The record size of the funding two years ago is reflected in the fact that the 2016 grant was almost ten times larger, at around $30 million (about 12 billion forints). So Soros has two main battlegrounds: Brussels and Budapest. With the establishment of the Patriotic Forces, the functioning and networking at the heart of the European Union becomes even more valuable for the Soros empire, and with the dismantling of USAID, the political corruption network does not disappear, but is transformed.

The Center for Fundamental Rights has so far presented two analyses of how the Open Society Foundations (OSF) have supported left-wing organisations in Europe and the post-Soviet countries, as well as in Hungary. In the first case, Soros has spent $1.4 billion (538 billion forints) to fund NGOs with ideological interests and activities, while in Hungary it has allocated $89.5 million (34.5 billion forints) to 153 organisations, many of which focus on gender issues, illegal immigration and the propagation of progressive ideology. In both cases, it is clear from the publicly available list of donors that these funds have been used for globalist networking and are thus part of the global political corruption scandal that has erupted over US decisions affecting USAID.
The rumours that an open society is leaving Europe are refuted by Figure 1. In fact, the amount of money spent on Brussels-based organisations in the period 2016-2023 shows a growing trend of financial donations. From $4 million in 2016 to $30 million in 2023, the amount allocated to beneficiary NGOs is significantly higher. This means that even if these organisations did not receive a single dollar after 2023, Open Society alone would guarantee their operations for years to come. It is also no coincidence that in the year before the 2024 EP elections, the OSF budget was particularly generous in its allocation of funds: the Soros family did everything possible to ensure that the work of organisations with a clearly identifiable ideological profile was not threatened by financial restrictions.

It is also important to note who the main recipients in Brussels were. Looking at the list of the top 30 beneficiaries, it is clear that here too the support is ideological and political: there are many human rights fundamentalists, pro-abortion, pro-LGBTQ, pro-migration, fact-checking and youth organisations. The second largest grantee, the founders of the International Partnership for Human Rights, were activists who had left the International Helsinki Committee. In its 2018 report, the organisation argues that Hungary has ‘imposed undemocratic restrictions on NGOs’.  You may know this from Márta Pardavi, who is co-chair of the Hungarian Helsinki Committee in addition to her position on its board of trustees.
Among its beneficiaries are a number of umbrella organisations. For example, the Network of European Foundations for Innovative Cooperation (3rd place), which includes 13 organisations, or the International Planned Parenthood Federation European Network (4th place), which has dozens of members. This NGO claims to be present in 40 countries in Europe and Central Asia (practically the whole world, together with the Global Planned Parenthood Federation) and is essentially active in promoting abortion. They say their aim is to give the EU and its member states a 'progressive voice' on abortion.   As part of these activities, they have been involved in the international campaign to attack the Hungarian Heartbeat Law.  The Hungarian member of the organisation is the Háttér Társaság, which is essentially an LGBTQ lobby group and is itself funded by Soros.

On the LGBTQ front, the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association - Europe (5th), which has dozens of member organisations, is also an umbrella organisation. In addition to Háttér Társaság, other Hungarian NGOs include Amnesty International Hungary, Budapest Pride and Transvanilla . The European Network Against Racism (19th) also has several Hungarian members. However, in a book of studies published by them, Fidesz's 2010 pledge to improve public security and introduce victim-centred justice is described as racist.
The Platform for International Cooperation on Undocumented Migrants (13th place), which includes more than 160 organisations, aims to support undocumented migrants. For example, the organisation prohibits its members from talking about 'illegal' immigration.  The Hungarian member of the NGO is the Menedék Migránsokat Segítő Szervezet, itself a beneficiary of Soros funding. There is also a personal overlap, as Menedék's director, András Kováts, is also a member of the Brussels-based organisation's board of trustees.  Kováts is also the author of a migration study for the Migration Policy Group (26th place).
The European Movement International (10th place) promises to be a pro-EU organisation. However, the first thing you see when you visit its website is a half-screen Ukrainian flag. The text that follows says it is important to 'strengthen the EU's engagement with Ukraine by increasing military and financial aid while continuing to sanction Russia' and to 'accelerate Ukraine's accession to the EU'.  On its Instagram page, a video from 2024 attacking the Hungarian government shows Prime Minister Viktor Orban in Russian President Vladimir Putin's suit pocket, with the caption 'Hungary deserves better'.  In the same video, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is attacked , as is the German AfD party.

Transparency International's Brussels Liaison Office is also on the list of beneficiaries (6th place). Since 1995, Transparency International has published its annual Corruption Perceptions Index, which is manipulated for political purposes. It also has an affiliate in Hungary, which is also supported by Soros.
The EU DisinfoLab (29th), which deals with disinformation and fact-checking, says it is important to highlight the fact that Klubrádió has lost its radio frequency, as required by law.  Another article says that ’one of the main sources of disinformation in Hungary is the government itself’.

The National Consultation was cited as an example of the spread of disinformation. According to them, this is why Hungarian society has a different view on war, gender and migration.
All the NGOs on the list are also very active in the field of public statements. Several of them can be found at the protests of Soros organisations against the Stop Soros law,  have taken a stand against the EU-wide agent law  and have also expressed their support for the participants of the demonstrations organised from abroad in Serbia.
